Reasons People Seek Therapy

We work with adults, teens, and children, as well as parents/guardians and families

Stress and Anxiety

Anxiety (and stress) is also the most common reason people contact a therapist when seeking help. We will work together to understand the underlying causes while building skills to strengthen your resilience and coping styles.

Parenting Strategies and Skills

Parents often seek help for many reasons including school and social performance, behavior or rule breaking problems. Many parents seek help because the family is undergoing a transition or a loss and they are looking for ways to support their child.

School Consultation

Children and teens often experience a range of needs and issues at school. When helpful, child and teen therapists will collaborate with school staff to identify and implement strategies at school to support and promote learning, coping, emotional growth, and social development.

ADHD/ADD

ADHD and ADD bring both strengths and challenges with executive functions such as maintaining attention, impulse control, flexibility and self regulation of emotions. Therapy involves working with the child/teen, parents/guardians, and school staff to identify and further grow strengths, as well as to support and build needed skills.

Level 1 Autism

Autism comes with many strengths, as well as challenges. From regulating emotions/behavior, understanding both one's and others’ perspectives, flexibility, to awareness of how one’s actions and tone is interpreted by others. Therapy promotes adaptive abilities in these areas by building the needed skills based on strengths and interests.

Grief and Loss

Loss occurs during life, and it can take many forms. Grief is a natural reaction to such losses, and grief can be seen in feelings and moods, choices and decisions, shifts in behaviors, changes in sleep/appetite/energy levels, and reduced emotional and physical health. Therapy can help with healing, acceptance of the loss, and adapting to the changes that come with loss.

Trauma

Trauma occurs when our own lives, or loved ones’ lives, are in danger or threatened, as well as when we experience emotional and/or physical harm and violence. It is natural to experience intense emotional, behavioral, and physical reactions in response to trauma. Therapy can assist with processing the trauma, healing, and building skills to cope.

Divorce and Separation

A child will experience a wide range of emotions when their parents are in the process of separation/divorce. These are often thoughts of losing one or both parents to disruptions to their daily life. We will help your child by providing a safe/supportive space where they can express themselves and help them develop strategies to navigate the emotional challenges they’re facing.

Life Transitions

Our lives and the lives of our children are full of constant change. Whether it is moving to college or a new home, the birth of a new sibling, coping with loss, or a shift in family dynamics such as divorce, these all require new skills for adaptation. We will help your child/teen, and your family with these life changes by providing emotional support and building resilience to allow for easier adjustments to future life changes.

Behavioral Issues

When your child is not able to meet the behavioral expectations at home or at school, it can be an incredibly frustrating experience for you and your child. Defiance and aggression can be some of the ways your child expresses their inability to solve their problems. Once gaining an understanding of your child, their development and ability for emotional control, we will help you develop a plan of support both at home and at school that leads them to success.

Depression

Depression is a complex mental health condition that can affect people of all ages and often presents with persistent sadness, loss of interest, low energy, changes in appetite and sleep disturbances. We work together to explore the underlying cause of depression and develop strategies to reduce or alleviate its symptoms. Managing depression often includes a family-centered approach. Education about depression is a fundamental aspect of treatment for both children and adults.
