The Center for Psychology and Counseling
Established in 1994, The Center for Psychology & Counseling provides professional and comprehensive psychological services to those in need. Our Center is committed to upholding professional and ethical standards to ensure quality care that instills confidence and comfort. Using individual, family, couples or group therapy, we provide effective treatment modalities that are mindful of patient needs with regard to confidentiality, security and respect. Additional services are available for a comprehensive approach to treatment.
Child and Adolescent Groups
Our small groups teach social, study and organizational skills while using fun and engaging activities. The Center for Psychology & Counseling also offers specialized groups for children with divorced or separated parents.
Play Therapy
Play therapy gives children the opportunity to work through problems using their natural mode of communication and expression -- play. Even when they may not have the ability to articulate verbally, the process helps the child to express underlying feelings and issues at an emotional level and can assist with diagnoses and treatment of many childhood problems. Materials and techniques include clay, paint, sand tray, games, and storytelling.
Psychoeducational Testing and Evaluation
Your child can benefit from an educational evaluation if he or she is showing signs of:
Homework battles
Learning difficulties or disabilities
Reading, writing or math problems
School boredom or dislike
School frustration or resistance
Social or emotional problems
Somatic symptoms
Underachievement
Academic giftedness (PEN Program)
This unique program is a specialized four-week therapeutic summer program designed to teach social skills to children who have social and interpersonal difficulties. Our program includes fun and non-competitive structured activities and games that encourage development of a positive self-image, enhancement of self-esteem, and successful relationships and friendships.
